he DeWeese Quintet is an all woman ensemble led by Maiden Voyage trombonist, Jill DeWeese.  The group was created to provide playing opportunities for up-and-coming female jazz musicians.  DeWeese is currently the jazz studies director at Fullerton Union High School Academy of the Arts.   Performing with her are alto saxophonist Megan Brewer, pianist Emily Nafius, bassist Laura Scofield, and drummer Angie Tabor.

Brewer is an ethnomusicology major at UCLA, and has studied with Dan St. Marseille and Jeff Clayton.  Drummer Tabor was the 1999 IAJE Sister in Jazz winner, and has studied with Dr. Michael Carney, Randy Drake, and Jeff Hamilton.  Two Friends of Jazz scholarship recipients, both currently attending Fullerton College, complete the ensemble.  Pianist Nafius recently won a scholarship to attend the Stanford Jazz Workshop due to an outstanding solo performance at the Berkeley College Jazz Festival.  She has studied with Maiden Voyage artist Linda Martinez, and with Kei Akagi.  Scofield is currently studying under another Steamers regular performer, Luther Hughes.
