to ella fitzgerald
MICKI
RHYNE takes to the stage in an effervescent and captivating style to entertain
her audiences in every sense of the word. Not only does Micki sing great, but
she consistently delights her audience with her warmth and humor. Her
selection of material is top notch, and she delivers each song with expert skill
and a distinctive style. "As a child, I was mesmerized by all the
great singers, particularly Ella Fitzgerald. I remember playing her records over
and over again, struck by the beautiful quality of her voice. As I grew older,
my taste expanded to include rhythm and blues, pop and folk. Some of my
favorites were (and still are) Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Joni Mitchell,
Bonnie Raitt, and many other top recording artists at that time."
Finally,
it was Merv Griffin who, after hearing her in a local nightclub in 1985,
encouraged Micki to focus her extraordinary talents in the jazz arena, and she
has been pleasing audiences with her unique style ever since. Since moving to
California from the East Coast in 1984, Micki has appeared on three Merv Griffin
shows, and has recorded the title songs for two feature films. More recently,
she recorded the national television and radio commercials for the New York, New
York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Micki
is no stranger to resort and festival audiences. She is regularly featured at
California hot spots such as the lobby jazz club in Santa Monica's Loew's Hotel
and Resort, and has been a favorite with audiences at exclusive hotels such as
Resorts International in Atlantic City and the New York, New York Hotel in Las
Vegas. Her debut at the Indian Wells New Year’s Jazz Festival in 1998 was so
successful that she was asked back to perform for the millenium New Year’s
Eve. In the private sector, Micki has performed at birthday celebrations for Dr.
Armand Hammer and Eva Gabor, has entertained Coca-Cola Co. and Coors Co.
executives, and has performed microphone demonstrations for AKG at the
prestigious NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Raised in Massachusetts, Micki began singing in front of audiences at the age of
five. Utilizing her other talents for piano and guitar, she continued to perform
throughout high school, four years of college and five years of teaching music
and art to special needs adolescents. Eventually feeling the pull to perform
full time, Micki left her position as head teacher to start her own dance band,
developing a "standing room only" following in Western Massachusetts.
Seizing an opportunity to work with her brother Chris, a successful
keyboardist and producer/arranger, Micki moved out to California. It was then
that her solo-performing career took flight. Micki really shines when she
is delivering one of the great jazz standards, but her talent doesn't stop
there. Due to her diverse musical influences, she is equally comfortable
performing a contemporary pop song or a golden oldie. It's obvious that her many
hours of listening to her favorite singers have paid off. So how can one explain
a combination of Ella Fitzgerald, Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson, Al
Jarreau, Patsy Cline, Carmen McRae, Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole? Just one
evening with MICKI RHYNE and you'll become a true believer!
